London. Taking a major decision, Wimbledon has allowed female tennis players to wear colored ‘undershorts’, relaxing the mandatory rule of wearing white clothes. Its demand was being made for a long time, but now Wimbledon has finally taken a decision on this and this will bring great relief to the women players.
Wimbledon enforces a strict white rule for all players at its grasscourt Grand Slam tournaments, but the All England Club said it had decided to update its rules after discussions with the WTA, clothing companies and the medical team. It has been decided so that women players can feel more comfortable during menstruation.
Shorts or skirts should not be long…
According to the new rule, women can now “wear ‘undershorts’ of dark or light dark colour, provided they are not longer than their shorts or skirts”. Rest of the rules will remain same. “We are committed to supporting players and listening to their feedback on how they can perform at their best,” said Sally Bolton, chief executive of the All England Club.
He said, “We hope that by relaxing this rule, the players will get relief from their anxiety, so that they can concentrate completely on their performance.”
