New Delhi. Olympic bronze medalist boxers Lovlina Borgohain and Shiva Thapa will spearhead the Indian challenge in the semi-finals of the Asian Boxing Championships in Amman, Jordan on Wednesday. India’s 12 boxers will present a challenge to make a place in the final. The semi-finals of the women’s section will be played from Wednesday while the last four matches of the men’s section will be held on Thursday.

Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist Lovlina is challenging for the first time in the international tournament in the 75 kg category. She will face Korea’s Seong Suyeon in the semi-finals. World Championships 2022 bronze medalist Parveen (63kg) will take on Mongolia’s Uranbileg Shinetseg, while debutant Preeti (57kg) will square off against Tokyo Olympics gold medalist Irie Sena of Japan.

Indian boxers will be a tough challenge
Apart from this, four other Indian women boxers Alfia Pathan (81kg+), Sweety (81kg), Ankushita Boro (75kg) and Meenakshi (52kg) will also be staking claim for a place in the final. Shiva Thapa (63.5kg), who became the most successful boxer at the Asian Championships by securing a sixth medal in the event, will take on two-time Asian Championships medalist Bakhodur Usmonov of Tajikistan in the men’s last-four bout.

Two-time Commonwealth Games bronze medalist Mohammad Hussamuddin (57kg) will square off against 2021 World Championships silver medalist Serik Temirzhanov of Kazakhstan. Narendra (over 92kg), Sumit (75kg) and Govind Kumar Sahni (48kg) will also contest in the semi-finals.
