Asian Chess: Pragyanananda beats Karthikeyan in marathon match, 4 players have joint lead

New Delhi. Top seed Indian Grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa shared a 5.5-point joint lead with three other players after beating compatriot Karthikeyan Murali in a marathon seventh-round match of the Asian Continental Chess Championship here on Tuesday. Praggnanandhaa won against Karthikeyan in 137 moves.

Grandmaster Harsh Bharatkoti held compatriot Indian Grandmaster SL Narayanan on par. Harsh has 5.5 marks. Apart from Pragyananda and Harsha, India’s Kaustav Chatterjee is also joint top, who upset former national champion Arvind Chidambaram.

Shams Vokhidov of Uzbekistan also reached the joint top after defeating SP Sethuraman of India. In the women’s section, India’s Woman Grandmaster PV Nandhidha leads with six points after seven rounds. He stopped compatriot Padmini Raut (five points) on par.
