Chennai. World Squash Federation (WSF) President Jenna Wooldridge said on Sunday that Chennai will host the Squash World Cup in a new form in 2023. He also said that the city could also host the 2025 World Cup stage.

The revamped World Cup will be held in 2023 after a multi-year deal with the Squash Rackets Federation of India (SRFI). Speaking on the sidelines of WSF’s conference and general annual meeting here, Wooldridge said the World Cup, which has not been held since 2011, could now possibly be a mixed team tournament.

He said, “We have got support to bring the new World Cup to Chennai. We used to conduct it (World Cup) earlier but since 2011 it has not been held. Now it will be in reverse form, with plans to make it a mixed team event. We have not yet decided on the qualification criteria.

He also said that apart from the World Cup, the WSF is also considering hosting the World Doubles tournament in the city in 2024. “India is an important location and an important partner of the World Squash Federation with a strong track record of supporting the WSF,” Wooldridge said.
