This relation between father and children is unbreakable. However, we all know about fathers that they are not able to express their love in the same way as mothers, but love is equally received from both. How and when did the beginning of making this father’s day special, we also tell you today.
When and how did Father’s Day start?
Father’s Day, being celebrated today on June 19, started in 1910. It is said to have been started by Sonara Dodd, a girl living in America. The story about Sonara is prevalent that after the death of her mother, her father brought her up and gave her the love of both mother and father. Because of this, it arose in Sonara’s mind that if Mother’s Day can be celebrated for the mother, then Father’s Day should also be celebrated for the father. Since then the celebration of Father’s Day started.
It is said that Sonara’s father was born in June, so Sonara started celebrating it in June itself. In 1916, US President Woodrow Wilson accepted the proposal to celebrate Father’s Day but it was not recognized at the national level then. In 1924, President Calvin Coolidge recognized Father’s Day nationally. After that in 1966, Lyndon Johnson announced this day to be celebrated on the third Sunday of June. Since then, Father’s Day has been celebrated on the third Sunday of June.
