New Delhi. Wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia on Monday claimed that those who are trying to defame them and force them to give up their fight for justice against former Wrestling Federation of India chief Brij Bhushan Singh are now behind their backs. Are after the job.
This statement by the protesting wrestlers came after media reports claimed that the protesting wrestlers, including Sakshi Malik, had withdrawn from the movement and rejoined their respective government jobs.
However, the wrestlers issued a clarification saying that they have resumed work as Officers on Special Duty (OSD) in the Railways, but reports of calling off the protest are just ‘rumours’.
‘Our lives are at stake’
On the other hand, Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia claimed on Twitter that their lives are at stake and they are ready to quit their jobs if their jobs come in the way of justice.
Both the wrestlers said in a similar tweet, ‘Those who tell our medals to be worth 15-15 rupees are now behind our jobs. Our life is at stake, a job is a very small thing in front of that. If the job is seen to be an obstacle in the way of justice, then we will not take even ten seconds to leave it. Don’t show fear of job.
Olympic medalists Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia, who are leading the movement against outgoing Wrestling Federation of India president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, have dismissed reports of backing down and said their fight will continue till justice is served.
‘Will not back down in the fight for justice’
Rio Olympics bronze medalist Sakshi tweeted, ‘This news is absolutely wrong. In the fight for justice, none of us has backed down and will not.
Sakshi and Bajrang met Home Minister Amit Shah on the night of June 3 and since then there was speculation in the media about their withdrawal from the movement. Sakshi confirmed this meeting and said that it was a formal meeting and no solution has been found in it. Talking to the media about the meeting with the Home Minister, he said, ‘We had a normal conversation and no final solution was found. Our demand will remain the same till the end that serious allegations have been leveled against the accused and he should be arrested.
At the same time, Tokyo Olympic bronze medalist Bajrang tweeted, ‘The news of withdrawal of the movement is a rumor. This news is being spread to harm us. He further wrote, ‘We have neither retreated nor have we withdrawn the movement. The news of withdrawal of FIR of women wrestlers is also false. The fight will continue till justice is done.
‘Female wrestler going through trauma’
Apart from this, Vinesh Phogat tweeted, ‘Those spreading fake news also realize the trauma the female wrestler is going through.’ He further wrote, ‘Weak media has legs that start trembling in front of a goon’s hunter, not a female wrestler.’ He also wrote a sher of Abid Adeeb, ‘Where everyone’s steps have wobbled, now there will be a path from its destination.’
On the other hand, Sakshi later said during a conversation with the media, ‘We have not backed down from the movement at all. Satyagraha will continue till justice is done. And as far as the Railways is concerned, along with the movement, I am also fulfilling my responsibility. He said, ‘We are planning ahead. We want to take forward the movement with non-violence. I am OSD in Railways and I have a lot of responsibilities, so till the movement is not going on and we are making strategy, till then I am looking after my work here.
