Nitin Menon’s confession
Indian star cricketers make pressure on umpire

New Delhi. For the last three years, Nitin Menon has been umpiring under immense pressure among India’s top stars. Meanwhile, he has matured so much that preparations for this umpire of the ICC Elite Panel to make his debut in the next month’s Ashes have also been confirmed. Menon, who was included in the ICC Elite Panel in June 2020, was seen umpiring in most of India’s domestic matches due to the travel ban on foreigners due to the Corona epidemic.

Menon also officiated in T20 World Cup matches held in the UAE and Australia and was also seen officiating in the home series against South Africa in England last year. He has officiated in 15 Tests, 24 ODIs and 20 T20 matches since June 2020. Talking to PTI before the Ashes, Menon said that umpiring in so many matches in the last three years has been beneficial for him.

He said, ‘It was wonderful working in the Indian subcontinent for the first two years. Umpired in Test matches and also in two T20 World Cups in Australia and Dubai. I am working with the best match officials and players which has made the experience better. This gave me an opportunity to know myself as well as how I behave under pressure.

Menon will officiate in the last three Ashes Tests and is fully prepared to handle the pressure. He said, ‘When the Indian team plays in India, there is a lot of hype. Many big stars of the Indian team try to put pressure on you. They keep trying to get 50-50 decisions in their favor but we do not lose control even under pressure and do not focus on their demands.

He said, ‘This proves that I am ready to face every situation. This has increased my confidence. Menon believes that umpires also have to prepare physically and mentally like players. He said, ‘It is important to spend time in the gym and eat well. The more matches, the better match fitness will be because one has to stand for six to seven hours. I spend 75 minutes in the gym six days a week. Nothing has to be done for mental strength, the more matches you play, the more pressure is there and you are ready to face the pressure.

Regarding the preparation of Ashes, he said, ‘It will be a great series. I officiated in the series between England and South Africa. I know what ‘baseball’ is and what to expect. There will be a lot at stake in every match but I will follow the basics and take decisions accordingly. (with language input)
