Khwaja’s blast in Birmingham
Australia made a tremendous comeback

Birmingham. With the unbeaten century of Australian opener Usman Khawaja, Australia has taken steps towards returning by scoring 298 runs on the second day of the first Ashes cricket test against England. England had declared the first innings by scoring 393 runs for eight wickets, leaving Australia still 95 runs behind. Australia, however, would be feeling better after losing world number one Test batsman Marnus Labuschagne (00) in the first ball and then number two batsman Steve Smith (16) in the first session.

Usman Khawaja is currently playing for the team by scoring 126 runs in 265 balls, while wicket-keeper batsman Carrie is supporting him by scoring 40 runs in 61 balls. After losing three wickets in the morning session, Australia did better in the second session. Khawaja and Travis Head (50) added 81 runs for the fourth wicket. Head played some attractive shots on Moeen Ali but the England off-spinner eventually got him caught by Jack Crawley at midwicket.

Khawaja and world number three batsman Head scored runs quickly. Both came together at a score of 67 runs for three wickets. Khawaja also hit two sixes on Moeen. Australia started the day with 14 runs without losing a wicket. Opener David Warner (09) played the ball outside the off side of Broad in the seventh over of the day. Labushen (00) handed the catch to Bairstow on the next ball.

Khawaja and world number two Test batsman Steve Smith (16) kept the hosts’ bowlers bereft of success for more than an hour. Stokes, however, gave Australia a third blow by lbw Smith on the last ball of his second over. Smith took DRS but the decision went in favor of the hosts and he had to return to the pavilion. The Kangaroo team got the fourth blow in the form of Head (50) and the fifth blow in the form of Green (38). (with language input)
