Batter knocking again and again in Team India
Joined the team several times as a backup to Rohit Sharma
New Delhi. The child watching the cricket match while sitting on his grandmother’s lap had said that one day I will also play for India. Then maybe grandmother or other family members would have laughed it off. But, later this thing became a reality. This is the story of opener Abhimanyu Easwaran, who plays domestic cricket for Bengal. His chartered accountant father has a big hand in Abhimanyu becoming a cricketer. He himself wanted to become a cricketer. But, that dream could not be fulfilled. After this, leaving the work of accountancy to make his son a cricketer, he started cricket coaching. He left no stone unturned to make his son successful. He opened a cricket academy in Dehradun in the name of his son.
The initial coach of Abhimanyu Easwaran was his father RP Easwaran. After this, he shifted Abhimanyu to Kolkata in 2004. It was from here that he started becoming a professional cricketer. First played age group cricket. Then slowly move towards the Bengal team. Abhimanyu’s hard work paid off and he made his debut in first class cricket for Bengal in 2013. The turning point of his cricket career came in the Ranji Trophy of 2012-14. Then he played a brilliant inning in the quarter-finals by sharing a 163-run partnership with Sudip Chatterjee.
Abhimanyu continues to score runs in domestic cricket
Abhimanyu has scored a lot of runs in Ranji Trophy in the last few years. He was the top scorer of Bengal in the 2018-19 season. Then that opener had hit 3 centuries and as many half-centuries in 6 matches and scored 861 runs. He also played an amazing inning in the recent Irani Cup final between Rest of India and Madhya Pradesh. Abhimanyu had hit 154 runs. This is his 22nd century in first class cricket.
Abhimanyu was linked to Team India many times
Abhimanyu is able to score runs continuously for domestic cricket and India-A. But, not getting a chance to play for Team India. The 27-year-old Bengal batsman was linked with the Indian Test team on the Bangladesh tour in December last year. Then captain Rohit Sharma was ruled out of the Test series due to injury. In his place, Abhimanyu got an entry in the Indian team. At that time he had come to play the series against Bangladesh-A. But, Shubman Gill got a chance. Abhimanyu’s hands remained empty.
Keep knocking on the door of Team India again and again
Earlier, Abhimanyu Easwaran was also selected in Team India for the tour of England in 2021. The Indian team that was selected for the WTC Final that year also included Easwaran as Rohit Sharma’s backup. But, every time his hands remained empty and could not debut.
Why is Abhimanyu not getting a chance?
Abhimanyu Easwaran has been knocking on the doors of Team India continuously for the last 2 years. But not getting a chance to debut. One reason for this is the fight for the opening slot. Captain Rohit Sharma’s playing as an opener is fixed in every Test at home or away. The rest is all a fight for a spot. Till now KL Rahul was the first choice of the team for this spot. But, the way Shubman Gill left his mark in limited overs cricket. So it is difficult to ignore them.
Team India was given the biggest pain 21 months ago, now applied ointment, reached WTC final
Earlier, Shubman had also impressed with his batting in Australia. In such a situation, the team management is currently in a mood to give more chances to Gill. This is the reason why Gill’s lottery opened in the Ahmedabad Test against Australia in the event of KL Rahul being out of the team and he scored a century. In such a situation, Abhimanyu will have to wait more to join the playing-XI of Team India.
