Former captain Rahul Dravid has been made the head coach of Team India for the series against New Zealand starting November 17 at home. The BCCI issued a statement on Twitter giving this information. The Cricket Advisory Committee of Sulakshana Naik and RP Singh on Wednesday unanimously appointed Dravid as the head coach of Team India (Senior Men’s Cricket Team). Former India captain Dravid will take charge from the upcoming series against New Zealand. Taking up this role, Dravid has said that it is an honor for him to be appointed as the new head coach of the Indian cricket team and he is really excited about the role.

Dravid said, β€œIt is my honor to be appointed as the new head coach of the Indian cricket team and I am really excited about this role. Under Shastri’s leadership, the team has done extremely well, and I look forward to working with the team to take this forward. Having worked closely with most of the boys in NCA, U-19 and India-A, I know they have the passion and desire to improve every day. There are some big events in the next two years and I look forward to working with the players and support staff.

The BCCI had on October 26 invited applications for the post of head coach for the appointment of the next head coach in place of Ravi Shastri. Shastri’s tenure is coming to an end after the current ICC T20 World Cup. The BCCI said that the board congratulates Shastri (former team director and head coach), Bharat Arun (bowling coach), R Sridhar (fielding coach) and Vikram Rathor (batting coach) for their successful tenure. Under Shastri’s leadership, the Indian cricket team performed brilliantly. India finished number one in Tests and reached the final of the World Test Championship in England.
