Adam Gilchrist wanted Rohit as vice captain of Deccan Chargers, says former India bowler Pragyan Ojha – Latest Cricket News

Rohit Sharma made his international debut in 2007, a year before Virat Kohli. It took 14 years for Rohit to become India’s full-time captain. Rohit worked as Virat Kohli’s deputy in ODIs and T20 Internationals for a long time. On Wednesday, the BCCI made him the captain of the ODI. Earlier, after the T20 World Cup, he was also handed over the captaincy of T20. Kohli is also one of the most successful captains of India but he has not been able to win India in major ICC tournaments. Former India spinner Pragyan Ojha revealed that Adam Gilchrist wanted Rohit to become the vice-captain of Deccan Chargers.

Pragyan Ojha told Cricbuzz, “When Rohit first came to the Mumbai team, he was never projected as a leader. Slowly things started changing when he was placed in the core group of Deccan Chargers. Adam Gilchrist wanted Rohit Sharma to be the vice-captain. Ojha was referring to the year 2009 when Deccan Chargers won the title. Gilchrist was the highest run-scorer in IPL that season, followed by Rohit with 362 runs. Rohit is one of the most successful IPL captains. He has won 5 IPL titles for Mumbai Indians.

Rohit Sharma appointed ODI captain, Rishabh Pant or KL Rahul, who will get the vice-captain?

In Kohli’s absence, Rohit also led India to win the Asia Cup in 2018. Team India has played 10 ODIs under the captaincy of Rohit. Out of this, Team India has won 8 and lost only two. During this, while batting, Rohit has scored 543 runs at an average of 77.57. It also includes two centuries including a double century. This also includes the Asia Cup played in UAE in 2018.
