Afghanistan’s star spin bowler Rashid Khan is counted among the best bowlers in the world. Even the biggest batsmen of the world are helpless in front of them. Rashid’s name first shone from the IPL, when he wreaked havoc with his balls in the very first season while playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad. After this, this spinner did not look back and also made many records in international cricket. However, Rashid worked hard for all this and also worked hard on his fitness. He recently revealed that he had to give up even biryani to maintain his body.
Talking to ESPNcricinfo, Rashid said, “Before 2017, when I played my first IPL, my consistency was not that good and the reason behind my chase was my fitness. After playing a few matches, my body was not ready for the upcoming matches and due to this, good performance was not coming out. But, after the 2017 IPL, I saw how players take care of their fitness. Earlier, I hardly used to go to the gym. Being from Afghanistan, it was very difficult for me to understand these things and when you do not have such facilities then you do not understand how important fitness is.
Talking about the change in his diet, Rashid said, ‘Earlier, I used to eat a lot of things harmful to the body like biryani, bread, some sweets. But, after IPL 2017, I stopped all this. And now I eat grilled food and salad with it. I decided that if I want to improve my skills then I have to be fit by all means. For some years I did not eat biryani, bread and sweets at all. I used to eat once a month. But, I used to do gym everyday. If I missed the gym, I didn’t eat properly. When I work out for a long time, I am able to eat properly. This kind of mindset should be in every cricketer because it is our job and we should be dedicated towards it.
