Asian Games will be held in China in September
Indian team led by Harmanpreet eyeing the title
Many young star players included in the 15-member team
New Delhi. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the women’s team for the upcoming Asia Cup (Asian Games 2023). Explosive wicket-keeper batsman Richa Ghosh has returned to the team while several WPL star players including Anjali Sarwani have also been included in the Indian women’s team. Many experienced players including pacer Renuka Thakur, Shikha Pandey and Yastika Bhatia will not be seen in the team.
The 19th Asian Games will be held in Hangzhou, China from 19 September to 8 October 2023. Cricket matches will be played at Zhejiang University of Technology Pingfeng Cricket Ground. The women’s cricket competition will be held from 19 to 28 September. In this multi event, the cricket competition will be played on the basis of T20 format. In this tournament, the Indian board has decided to send both men’s and women’s teams. BCCI announced both the teams on the same day.

Young fast bowler Titas Sadhu has been included in the team. A right-arm fast bowler, Sadhu played a key role in India’s victory in the first Under-19 Women’s World Cup in South Africa. Harmanpreet Kaur will be the captain of the team while Smriti Mandhana will be the vice-captain. India had recently defeated the hosts 2-0 in the 3-match T20 series on Bangladesh tour. The women’s team went to play international matches after 4 months.
