Apple Watch data shows people not getting enough sleep at night

Sleep directly affects our health. Doctors generally recommend that one should get 8 hours of sleep daily, but shocking information has revealed that most people do not get nearly enough sleep every night. Researchers have given this information using the data of Apple Heart and Movement Study. The study, published this month by Brigham and Women’s Hospital in the US, is based on the sleep data of more than 42,000 Apple Watch users.

ABC News in its report wrote that researchers at Brigham and Women’s Hospital apple Analyzed over 2.9 million nights of sleep from watch users. The information that the researchers got is shocking. It has been found that only 31 percent people are getting at least 7 hours of sleep at night. Reports say that a healthy adult needs at least 7 hours of sleep a night.

The researchers who Apple Heart and Movement Study Collected the data through, that study was announced by Apple in the year 2019. When researchers used this data, they got many more figures. Although these figures display the daily routine of the American people, but an estimate is definitely available that how people around the world are getting less sleep and its effect can be on their health in the future.

On analyzing the study, the researchers found that 66.4% people go to bed earlier than 12 midnight on weekdays i.e. Monday to Friday, but this number decreases to 56.6% on weekends i.e. Saturday-Sunday. Washington had the most people with 38.3% sleeping more than 7 hours, while Hawaii had the least number of people sleeping more than 7 hours.

The sleep ratio of a total of 42,455 people involved in the study shows that the average sleep time per person was 6 hours 27 minutes per night. On the other hand, the American Heart Association recommends 7 to 9 hours of sleep every night. Those who sleep less than this may have to face problems like stress, obesity, high BP, sugar, increasing cholesterol levels along with heart related diseases.
