Ashes 2021 22 Matthew Wade Mitchell Marsh Axed as Australia Announce Squad Usman Khawaja Travis Head Recalled

New Delhi. For the Ashes series 2021-22, Australia has announced the team for the first two Tests. Experienced batsman Usman Khawaja and middle order batsman Travis Head have returned to the team. At the same time, wicket-keeper batsman Matthew Wade, who won Australia in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2021, and the man of the match of the final, Mitchell Marsh have not been included in the team. Tim Paine will continue to be the captain of the Australian Test team.

Australian fast bowler James Pattison, who retired suddenly last month, has replaced Michael Neser and Jhye Richardson in the team. Neser and Richardson will join the Australian pace trio of Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood. Marcus Harris is included in the squad in place of injured Will Pucovsky. He will open with David Warner.

The Ashes series will start from December 8 at the Gabba ground. This day-night test match will be played with pink ball. After this, further matches will be played in Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Perth. In the year 2019, the last series played in England ended in a 2-2 draw. Marnus Labuschagne is set to play at number three and Steve Smith at number four. Usman Khawaja or Travis Head will play in place of Matthew Wade at number 5.

Khawaja has not played a Test match since 2019. However, this left-handed batsman was in tremendous form in the domestic tournament Sheffield Shield. Khawaja had scored 404 runs at an average of 68 and with two centuries. Young player Cameron Green has been given preference over Mitchell Marsh as an all-rounder. At the same time, Michael Swepson has been included in the team as the backup of Nathan Lyon.

Australia team: Tim Paine (captain), Pat Cummins, Cameron Green, Marcus Harris, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Michael Neser, Jhye Richardson, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Michael Swepson, David Warner.
