In the Indian Premier League (IPL) this year, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) under the captaincy of Virat Kohli has been performing well and has made it to the playoffs. The team is yet to play two more league matches and captain Virat is not happy with the team making it to the playoffs even before this. Virat is looking great not only with the bat but also as a captain. However, this is his last IPL season as the captain of RCB. After this, Virat will be associated with the team as a player. In such a situation, the question arises that which player is absolutely fit to take his place as captain. Former Indian player Ashish Nehra has given his opinion on this issue.
At present, four names are coming out openly on social media as Virat’s successor. These names are AB de Villiers, Glenn Maxwell, Yajuvendra Chahal and Devdutt Padikkal. Fans are of the opinion that these four players have the potential to carry forward the legacy of Virat Kohli. Talking to Cricbuzz on this issue, Nehra said, “Devdutt Padikkal has the ability to lead the Royal Challengers Bangalore team effectively. If the team is looking for a player as the captain for a long time, then they will have to hand over the captaincy to Padikkal.
Ashish said that Padikkal seems like the only best option in his eyes. Let us tell you that 21-year-old Padikkal represents Karnataka in domestic cricket. Although he was born in Kerala. His father had to settle in Karnataka for employment. Padikkal made his debut in the last IPL season and has been performing well since then. Padikkal has so far scored 822 runs in 26 IPL matches. In which his best score was 101 not out.
