New Delhi. Pakistan Cricket Board i.e. PCB has got a big blow regarding the organization of Asia Cup 2023. PCB chairman Najam Sethi had proposed to conduct the One Day Asia Cup on the hybrid model if Team India does not come to Pakistan, but the cricket boards of Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan have refused to accept the hybrid model. Now Pakistan has only 2 options left. The first is either to conduct the tournament at a neutral venue and the second option is to withdraw from the tournament. In the past also there have been Asia Cup matches without Pakistan.
According to news agency PTI, 3 countries have rejected the hybrid model of PCB. It is like a shock to him. Earlier, Najam Sethi had said that if we are asked to conduct the entire tournament at a neutral venue, then we will withdraw from the tournament. He wants to conduct the first 4 matches in Pakistan and for this he has also proposed the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Apart from Pakistan, PCB is also preparing to conduct the tournament in UAE.
Bad relations with Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka Cricket Board is ready to conduct the Asia Cup. The Pakistan Cricket Board was angry with Sri Lanka coming forward to host and canceled the ODI series against it. If Pakistan withdraws from the tournament, then only 5 countries will enter the Asia Cup instead of 6. Apart from India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Nepal have also got a place in this. Earlier, in the Asia Cup held in India in 1990-91, Pakistan’s team did not enter.
If the Asia Cup matches are held at a neutral venue, then Pakistan can demand a neutral venue for its ODI World Cup to be held in India in October-November. Recently, ICC officials had reached Pakistan regarding this issue. Apart from this, Pakistan has also got the hosting rights of the Champions Trophy to be held in 2025. BCCI is also angry with this.
