asia cup will be held in uae said bcci chief sourav ganguly

Asia Cup: BCCI President Sourav Ganguly said here on Thursday that the Asia Cup will be held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), which was earlier scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka is currently facing financial crisis and in such a situation such a big tournament cannot be organized in this country.

Ganguly’s big announcement

“The Asia Cup will be held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as this is the only place where it will not be raining,” Ganguly told reporters after the board’s apex council meeting here. Sri Lanka Cricket on Wednesday informed the Asian Cricket Council (SCC) that the board would not be in a position to host the upcoming T20 edition of the Asia Cup due to the economic and political crisis in the country.

Lanka Premier League also postponed

Sri Lanka Cricket had also recently postponed the third phase of the Lanka Premier League due to the current crisis. The Asia Cup (T20) will be held from August 27 to September 11.

India is a successful team

The 2022 Asia Cup will be the 15th season of the tournament, which started in Sharjah since 1984. India is the most successful team of the tournament, having won it seven times. Sri Lanka has won the competition five times while Pakistan has emerged as the winning team twice.
