Australia has won the T20 World Cup title for the first time. There was celebration in the Australian dressing room after registering an eight-wicket win against New Zealand in the final match, and the players were so engrossed in the celebration that they started drinking alcohol in their shoes. A video of the celebration of the Australian dressing room has been shared by the ICC from its official Instagram account. In this video, Matthew Wade took off his shoe, poured alcohol in it and gulped it down. After this Marcus Stoinis took the shoe from him and poured wine in it and drank it.
Australia was not being included in the title contenders before this T20 World Cup. At the same time, the team’s opener David Warner was dropped from the Sunrisers Hyderabad team during the Indian Premier League (IPL) just before the tournament. In such a situation, there was concern about his form. Warner, giving a befitting reply to all the critics, scored the most runs for Australia in the tournament and was adjudged Man of the Tournament.
The Australian team had lost against England in the Super-12 round, but after winning the remaining four matches, the team reached the semi-finals, where they faced Pakistan. Pakistan was considered as a strong contender to win the T20 World Cup, but Australia made a splendid performance to make it to the final and beat New Zealand by eight wickets to win the T20 World Cup 2021 title.
