Bangladesh captain Mahmudullah not happy despite a bang win over PNG in T20 World Cup

Bangladesh qualified for the Super 12 of the T20 World Cup after beating Papua New Guinea by 84 runs in their third Group B match on the back of their star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan’s all-round performance. In Super 12, now Bangladesh’s team will go to Group 1 or Group 2 will be decided after the result of the match between Scotland and Oman. Batting first at the Al Emirates Cricket Ground, Bangladesh posted 181 for seven and then bundled out Papua New Guinea for 97 in 19.3 overs. However, Bangladesh captain Mahmudullah is not happy despite this impressive victory and believes that the team still needs to improve in some areas.

Mahmudullah said after the match, ‘This win was very important for us, the intention of the batsmen was very clear from the way we wanted to play today’s game. Today’s wicket was a bit better than the last two matches. Our batsmen did a really good job. The bowlers were equally good with him. But we are still concerned about two things. The team’s batting and bowling both need a lot of improvement in the first six overs. If we get off to a good start, we can do really well. This is the area where we have to improve.

With this win, Bangladesh have four points in Group B from three matches. The team had to face defeat against Scotland in the first match. But after that he has qualified in the Super 12 of the T20 World Cup by registering two consecutive wins. Top two teams from Group A and Group B will qualify for Super 12. Sri Lanka are at the top of Group A with four points after winning two matches. Bangladesh captain Mahmudullah scored the highest 50 runs. Apart from him, Shakib Al Hasan played an innings of 46 runs. He also performed exceptionally well in bowling, conceding only nine runs in four overs and taking four wickets. Shakib got the man of the match award.
