In the Indian Premier League 2022 (IPL), Delhi Capitals saved themselves from the playoff race by defeating Rajasthan Royals by eight wickets on Wednesday. In this match, R Ashwin, batting at number three for Rajasthan Royals, scored 50 runs in 38 balls. After this innings, Ashwin said about his batting order that he had already been informed about it. In this match, Ashwin hit a quick fifty from David Warner of Delhi Capitals. Warner returned not out after scoring 52 off 41 balls.
Ashwin credited his innings for his rigorous batting practice at the start of the season as the Rajasthan Royals had already told the off-spinner that he could be sent to the top order. I was already told that as a batsman I will be sent to the top order. We also played some practice matches in which I opened the innings.
The veteran off-spinner said, “I have worked very hard on my batting and so it is good to see that I am getting the benefit of that.” Regarding the practice done before the IPL, Ashwin said, “I was in good batting mode even before the start of the season. I worked a little harder on the batting, changed my technique a little bit. It feels good to play a half century but it didn’t help the team win. In this match, Rajasthan Royals scored 160 for six in 20 overs, in response, Delhi Capitals won the match by making 161 runs losing two wickets in 18.1 overs.
