Kolkata. Former India captain Sourav Ganguly’s traditional offside drives reappeared during an exhibition match here on Friday, but the BCCI President’s XI lost to the Secretary’s XI led by Jay Shah by one run. An exhibition match of 15-15 overs was held at the Eden Gardens here on the eve of the Annual General Meeting of the Board of Cricket in India (BCCI).

Sourav Ganguly came out to bat at number six. Ganguly scored 35 runs in 20 balls with the help of 2 sixes and 2 fours. He had to retire according to the rules of the match and his team lost by just one run. In Ganguly’s home ground, BCCI secretary Shah did wonders with his spin bowling and became a star by taking three wickets for 58 runs in seven overs. With this the team could defend the score of 128 runs.

Jay Shah dismisses Azharuddin

Jay Shah took the wicket of Eden’s favorite cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin, who went lbw for two runs. Shah also dismissed Suraj Lotlikar of Goa Cricket Association. Not a single run was added to the score that the team got a third blow when Avishek Dalmiya, the President of the Cricket Association of Bengal, who came out as an opener, was run out after scoring 13 runs. After this, Ganguly batted well and continued his innings with cuts and drive shots on the off side. During his innings of 35 runs, he also played his traditional shot of getting out off 2 balls.

Jaydev Shah scored 40 runs

Earlier, electing to bat, BCCI Secretary’s XI posted a score of 128 for 3 in the allotted over with a 92-run partnership between Arun Dhumal (36) and Jaydev Shah (40). Jay Shah remained unbeaten on 10 runs. Azharuddin and Ganguly bowled together with the new ball. Ganguly gave 19 runs in his three overs and Azharuddin gave 8 runs in 2 overs. Ganguly also took a wicket.
