New Delhi. All-rounder Ben Stokes has been appointed as the captain of the Test team by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). Stokes’ name was in full swing after Joe Root resigned as the captain of the Test team earlier this month. Under Root’s captaincy, England lost the Ashes series 0-4 against Australia. In the current ICC Test Championship, the English team is at the bottom of the points table.
The ECB issued a statement saying, ‘Durham’s Ben Stokes has been appointed as the captain of the England men’s Test team. He will replace Joe Root. Stokes is the 81st Test captain of England. The interim chairman and chief executive officer of the ECB had agreed to this appointment on Tuesday.
