Bhanuka Rajapaksa seeks meeting with Kohli to take fitness to next level

Sri Lankan batsman Bhanuka Rajapaksa feels that skill is the most important thing for a player but at the same time feels that it is not possible to survive in modern era cricket without achieving the required fitness standards. Rajapaksa, who was dropped from the national team due to fitness issues, now wants to talk to India’s fittest cricketer Virat Kohli, whom he considers the ‘Cristiano Ronaldo of cricket’. Being a part of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 could give the 30-year-old Sri Lankan an opportunity to meet the former India captain and he hopes it will benefit him.

Virat will create history, ready to become the second batsman to do so in IPL

Rajapaksa announced his retirement from international cricket in January 2022. However, it was withdrawn after a week at the insistence of the authorities. But he also missed the opportunity to visit India last month due to the same fitness issue. Rajapaksa is confident that spending two months with Punjab Kings will greatly benefit his game and take his fitness to the next level.

Rajapaksa told news agency PTI, ‘IPL is the best league in the world and you get to learn a lot about the game from each and every member of your team, so I am learning a few things from Shikhar Dhawan. I have a good rapport with Mayank Agarwal as we played under-19 together. Outside the team, Virat Kohli is someone I can talk to and get some advice on fitness. He is on a very different level when it comes to fitness.
