Bismah Maroof will continue as Pakistan’s captain for one year, PCB confirms

New Delhi. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Thursday re-appointed senior women’s team player Bismah Maroof as the captain of the team. She will remain the captain of the women’s team from 2022 to 2023. Under his leadership, Pakistan’s team could not perform much in the Women’s T20 World Cup played in New Zealand. In round robin matches, Pakistan team could win only one match in 7 matches. Due to which Pakistan was out of the league stage. Despite this, the PCB, expressing confidence in Bismah, has decided to make him the captain for the next one year.

Speaking to Cricbuzz, Bismah Maroof said, “It is really an honor for any cricketer to captain the country. It is a privilege for me to continue this role. The cricket season of 2022-23 is the busiest for the Pakistan women’s team. We are excited and ready to face the challenges for this.” Bismah further said, “There came a time when I considered giving up the passion of playing cricket. But the PCB did not allow this to happen due to its maternity policy. PCB has made the game as inclusive as it can be for women in our country. I want to thank my family and especially my husband.”

Was made captain in 2016

Bismah Maroof was made the captain of the Pakistan women’s cricket team in the year 2016 by the PCB. After that she stayed away from cricket for a long time due to maternity leave. She returned to the team before the Women’s T20 World Cup to be played in New Zealand. He has played 115 ODI matches for Pakistan. During this, 2793 runs came out of his bat. Apart from this, he has taken 44 wickets in ODIs. He also represented Pakistan in 108 T20 International matches. In which Bismah has scored 2225 runs. He also has 36 wickets to his name in T20 Internationals.

Pakistan women’s cricket team led by Bismah Maroof will play at least 25 limited overs matches this season. During this, the team will also participate in the Women’s T20 Asia Cup and T20 World Cup. This season of Pakistan women’s cricket team will start with a series of 3 T20 and as many ODI matches against Sri Lanka. All these matches will be organized in Karachi.
