Saitja Mukkamalla scored a century for America
New Delhi. America defeated UAE in a match of the ICC World Cup Qualifier Playoff 2023 being played in Namibia. In this match, America got a target of 280 runs, which America achieved with 6 balls to spare. America registered the victory chasing the biggest target in the history of their ODI cricket. The hero of America’s victory was 18-year-old Saitja Mukkamalla. Coming out to bat at number three, Saitja chased down the target and scored an unbeaten 120 off 114 balls. In this innings, Saitja hit 11 fours.
Saitja became the youngest batsman to score a century in ODIs for America at 18 years 355 days. Saitja will turn 19 on 9 April. He played this memorable innings for America 10 days before his birthday. This is America’s second win in 3 matches in the ICC World Cup Qualifier Playoff. After this win, the team is at the third position in the points table.
UAE had scored 279 runs
UAE won the toss and batted first in this World Cup Qualifier Playoff match. UAE had lost 4 wickets within 100 runs. Vritya Arvind, who came out to bat at number three, played an innings of 57 runs. After his dismissal, Asif Khan, who came out to bat at number six, took charge and batted briskly. Asif, along with former captain Rohan Mustafa, shared a 105-run partnership in 99 balls for the fifth wicket. It seemed that this pair would take UAE beyond the score of 300 runs. But, Mustafa was run out and after that Ayan Khan also became bold without opening an account.

UAE’s score was 207/6 in the 40th over. Despite this, Asif Khan continued to score runs fast and hit a century in 81 balls to take UAE to a score of 279 runs.
Saitja scored a century for America
America made a steady start and scored 127 runs at the loss of 2 wickets in 25 overs. America had 8 wickets in hand and had to score 6 runs per over to win this match. America’s captain Monank Patel scored fast runs between 26 and 35 overs with Saitja Mukkamalla coming in to bat at number three. The pair collected 6 runs per over in the middle 10 overs. But, America lost the wickets of Monank Patel and Aaron Jones within 16 runs.
Meanwhile, Saitja completed his century in the 45th over. It seemed that UAE would make a comeback in the match. But, Saitja stuck to one end. Jesse Singh hit a four on the last ball of the 49th over to give America the victory.
18-year-old Saitja Mukkamalla returned unbeaten after playing an inning of 120 runs in 114 balls. This is America’s second win in the World Cup Qualifier playoffs and the team is third in the points table with a net run rate of +0.404. Canada is on top with 2 wins in 2 matches. In second place is the host Namibia. UAE has to play its next match with Canada on Saturday. Only the top-2 teams in the points table will be part of the qualifiers to be held in Zimbabwe.
