Brazil names 9 forwards in World Cup squad
Dani Alves was added to the squad, while Firmino was dropped.
Rio de Janeiro. Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino was dropped from Brazil’s squad on Monday as Brazil coach Tite named his World Cup squad with a team led by Neymar and 39-year-old veteran Dani Alves looking to secure a sixth title. Alves, a Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain veteran, signed with Mexican club Pumas in July. Alves, the oldest player ever selected for Brazil’s World Cup squad, will be participating in his third edition of the tournament.
Meanwhile, Firmino, who has returned to form for Liverpool this season, has yet to make the squad for Qatar. Brazil coach Tite has included nine forward players in his team for the World Cup. Tite is giving a lot of attention to his strikers in the World Cup to be held in Qatar. The team’s forward line will be led by 30-year-old Neymar while the 26-man squad announced on Monday also includes young forwards Vinicius Junior, Gabriele Martinelli and Rodrigo.
The Brazilian team lost to Belgium in the quarter-finals in 2018.
Barcelona’s right-back Dani Alves, 39, has also been included in the squad which includes 8 defenders and 6 midfielders. Brazil will play in Group G in the World Cup along with Serbia, Switzerland and Cameroon. Serbia and Switzerland were also in Brazil’s group in Russia four years ago. The Brazilian team then lost to Belgium in the quarterfinals. Tite has already announced that he will step down at the end of the tournament after six years in charge of the team.

Goalkeepers: Alisson, Ederson and Weverton.
Defenders: Dani Alves, Marquinhos, Thiago Silva, Eder Militão, Danilo, Alex Sandro, Alex Telles and Bremer.
Midfielders: Casemiro, Fred, Fabinho, Bruno Guimaraes, Lucas Paqueta and Everton Ribeiro.
Forwards: Neymar, Vinicius Júnior, Richardson, Rafinha, Antoine, Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli, Pedro and Rodrigo.
