MS Dhoni IPL Retirement: On Thursday night, Chennai Super Kings suffered a five-wicket defeat at the hands of Mumbai Indians in the 59th match of IPL 2022. With this defeat, CSK’s hopes of reaching the playoffs have ended. Chennai has become the second team after Mumbai to be out of IPL 2022. Earlier in IPL 2022, the team could not qualify for the playoffs. Even during that time the market was hot with Dhoni’s retirement and now that CSK is once again out of the league stage, there is talk of Dhoni’s retirement in the cricket corridors. Dhoni has retired from international cricket in August 2020, now he is seen playing only in IPL.
Now former Indian captain and current expert Sunil Gavaskar has given his opinion on this issue. Gavaskar believes that Dhoni is still keen on the game and will continue to play.
Regarding the retirement of the 40-year-old Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the Little Master said “Look how he has played (against Mumbai). Clearly showing that he is very keen and excited about the game. On the field today A lot was visible. He was running from end to end, which means he was curious. He senses an opportunity when those 2 or 3 early wickets fall. We see him do that very regularly. Which means ‘definitely not’ (regarding Dhoni’s retirement). Yes he will continue to play, that’s exactly what he said when he was asked in 2020.”
Even though the entire team of Chennai Super Kings was bundled out for 97 against Mumbai Indians, Mahendra Singh Dhoni stood alone like a lion at the other end. During this, Dhoni played an unbeaten innings of 36 runs in 33 balls. Mumbai had achieved this target with 31 balls to spare.
