New Delhi. Recently a movie was made on former cricketer Praveen Tambe. Whose title was ‘Kaun Praveen Tambe’. The film was well received. When the production house approached Tambe to make the film, he flatly refused. Praveen said that I am not Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli who they wanted to make a film on me. Recently, Praveen Tambe along with some players of Kolkata Knight Riders saw his film ‘Kaun Praveen Tambe’ in Mumbai. KKR captain Shreyas Iyer became very emotional after seeing this film. Praveen Tambe is included in the coaching staff of KKR these days. After watching the film Tambe was asked to address the audience. But he refused to do so. He could hardly control his emotions. Praveen Tambe said, the only thing I could tell him is to chase your dreams. Because dreams do come true.
Talking to the English newspaper The Indian Express, Praveen Tambe said, “I asked my wife and brother about the film, how was it. He said it was good. He was telling me the story of the film. Praveen said no. Please don’t tell me the story. Let me watch the film myself.” Rahul Dravid was also very impressed by this film made on the struggle of Praveen Tambe. He included the story of the film in his speech. Which became quite viral.
Praveen refused for the first time
Talking to the newspaper, Praveen says that when the filmmakers approached me to make a movie, I could not believe it. Tambe said that I refused the first time. He called me again and asked to meet me. The filmmakers wanted to show the journey of 41 years through the movie. One of his lines entered my mind. Movie makers said, people know that you played cricket at the age of 41. But they don’t know what you did for 20 years. People should know about your struggle. Then I agreed.
Praveen’s journey has not been easy
There were many turning points in Praveen’s life. Sometimes he went one step forward and sometimes he took two steps back. He kept on fighting. Tambe’s dream was to become a professional cricketer. But he could not get ahead of the storm of life. In the 90s, a friend of his, who worked in the Orient Shipping Company, drafted Tambe’s name on the corporate team Times Shield. But he had to face controversy. The company closed after a few years of cricket. Praveen Tambe lost his job. After this he got few job offers. In the year 2007, DY Patil gave him a job to play cricket. The IPL started in the next year i.e. 2008. Tambe was then the liaison manager inside the stadium. Whatever happened after that became history.
Coach advised to become a leg spinner
There are many people in the world who believe that life follows the lines of the palms. Praveen Tambe’s palms really changed his life. His coach Vidya Paradkar advised him that he should try leg spin. Because his palms were big. Praveen used to be a medium pacer in the 90s. But the selectors of the Mumbai Ranji team did not consider him worthy of selection. After that he became a leg spinner.
Got a chance at the age of 41
At the age of 41, he was selected in the Mumbai team for the Vijay Hazare Trophy. But did not get a chance to play a single match. He was bought by Rajasthan Royals in the 2013 IPL auction. After which he made his IPL debut. In the 2014 season, he played for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy. Overall, Praveen Tambe made his dream of becoming a cricketer come true by fighting many difficulties in his life. The struggles of his life have been well filmed in the film ‘Kaun Praveen Tambe’.
