Commonwealth Games 2022: Top seeds Dipika Pallikal and Saurav Ghosal advanced to the quarterfinals of the mixed doubles squash event of the Commonwealth Games after beating Peter Creed and Emily Witlock of Wales 11-8, 11-4. The Wales team had no answer to Pallikal’s strong forehand and Ghoshal’s artistic backhand.
Sourav and Dipika’s best performance
The Indian pair, who won the world doubles title earlier this year, are strong contenders for gold here. Earlier, the pair of young Sunaina Kuruvilla and Anahat Singh reached the pre-quarterfinals of the women’s doubles event. Sunayna, who entered the Commonwealth Games for the first time, and 14-year-old Anahata defeated Yeheni Kuruppu and Chanitma Sinali 11-9, 11-4 in the first match.
Squash Players Amazing
Anahata also won a round in the women’s singles category and performed brilliantly in doubles as well. World champion pair of India’s Joshna Chinappa and Dipika Pallikal are also playing in this category and are contenders for gold. Abhay Singh and Velavan Senthilkumar also made it to the men’s doubles pre-quarterfinals by defeating Luca Reach and Joe Chapman of the British Virgin Islands.
No success in mixed doubles
In mixed doubles, the experienced pair of Joshna Chinappa and Harinder Pal Sandhu crashed out after losing 8-11, 9-11 to Donna Loban and Cameron Pillay of Australia. Earlier yesterday, Saurav Ghoshal became the first Indian to win a medal in the singles category.
