Pakistan wicketkeeper batsman Mohammed Rizwan (Muhammad Rizwan) says that the cricketers of India and Pakistan (India vs Pakistan Bilateral Series) want to play bilaterally against each other but the political matters of both the countries are not under the control of the players. The cricket teams of India and Pakistan last met in a bilateral series in January 2013. Then the Pakistan team toured India. The two teams have not met in a bilateral series in Tests since the 2007–08 season. Although during this time there was a demand from Pakistan to play bilateral series between the two teams from time to time, but India refused every time.

Meanwhile, both the teams have been facing each other in the ICC tournaments, which includes the World Cup and Asia Cup tournaments. The Pakistan team is currently preparing to play a limited over home series against the West Indies. Talking to the media ahead of the ODI series against the Windies, Mohammad Rizwan said, “The cricketers of Pakistan and India want to play against each other, but the political matters of both the countries are not under the control of the players.”

Pujara and Rizwan played for Sussex in the county
