New Delhi. The team of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has reached the playoffs of IPL 2021. Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who has made CSK the IPL champion three times, may have failed with the bat this season but the trust of the team owners in him has not diminished in the slightest. A day before, Dhoni said that he wants to play the last match in Chennai ground. Since then, speculations started being made that IPL 2022 could be Dhoni’s last season. Next year Dhoni will also be 41 years old. However, the CSK franchise has made it clear that Dhoni can play for the team for a few more years.
An official of India Cements, which owns Chennai Super Kings, told Cricbuzz,
“We are going to retain MS Dhoni for IPL 2022, he will be there next year and maybe a few more years. Nothing has been decided yet, he said, adding that fans can watch his farewell match in Chennai. There is no way to conclude that next year is his last year.”
Dhoni had said during a conversation with the fans on the completion of 75 years of India Cements, “When it comes to farewell you can come and see me playing for CSK. You will get a chance to bid me farewell. Hopefully we will come to Chennai and play our last match. Will also meet all the fans.” He retired from international cricket on 15 August 2020.
Dhoni has not been able to play in Chennai since the year 2019. The entire matches of the previous season were held in the UAE, while the first 29 matches of the current season were held in India, but no team got a chance to play the match at home ground. Dhoni has scored 84 runs in 13 matches this season at an average of just 14.
