Shivam Dubey (64 not out) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (50) slammed Chennai Super Kings batsman Rituraj Gaikwad’s unbeaten 101 to help Rajasthan Royals win by seven wickets with 15 balls to spare. In the 47th match of IPL 2021, Chennai Super Kings scored 189 for four after losing the toss and batting first at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Saturday. Gaikwad scored an unbeaten 101 for Chennai. Rajasthan achieved this target in 17.3 overs for the loss of 3 wickets. Yashasvi Jaiswal hit 50 off 21 balls for Rajasthan. Apart from him, Shivam hit four fours and four sixes in 42 balls. This is Shivam’s first fifty in the IPL. Captain Sanju Samson scored 28 and Evin Lewis scored 27 runs.
Chasing a huge target of 190 runs from Chennai, the pair of Jaiswal and Lewis gave an explosive start to Rajasthan. Both the batsmen shared a quick partnership of 77 runs in 32 balls. Rajasthan has made such a big score for the first time without any loss in the Powerplay. After that both the batsmen were dismissed soon after. Jaiswal hit six fours and three sixes in 21 balls. After the opening pair was dismissed, captain Samson and Shivam ensured the team’s victory by sharing 89 runs in 58 balls for the third wicket. Samson hit four fours in 24 balls. For Chennai, Shardul Thakur took two and KM Asif took one wicket.
Earlier, Chennai Super Kings scored a mammoth score of 189 for four on the back of Gaikwad’s unbeaten century. Gaywad scored the first century of his IPL career in 60 balls with the help of nine fours and five sixes. Apart from them, Ravindra Jadeja played an unbeaten 32 runs in the final over with the help of four fours and a six in 15 balls. At the same time, Faf du Plessis contributed 25 and Moeen Ali contributed 21 runs. Rahul Tewatia took three wickets for Rajasthan.
With this win, Rajasthan’s hopes of reaching the playoffs are still intact. The team is at number six with 10 points from 12 matches with five wins. Punjab Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders also have 10-10 points from the same number of matches, but Rajasthan are at number six due to poor net run rate.
