CWG 2022 Indian hockey teams to compete in Birmingham Commonwealth Games says CGF


Bhubaneswar. India has withdrawn its decision not to send teams to the hockey events of next year’s Birmingham Commonwealth Games and will send its teams if they qualify. An official of the Commonwealth Games Federation gave this information on Saturday. Hockey India earlier this year decided not to send teams to the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games due to the Corona pandemic and not much time between the Commonwealth and Asian Games.

Both had guaranteed India’s participation in the Commonwealth Games hockey event. The Birmingham Commonwealth Games are to be held from July 28 to August 8, while the Asian Games will begin on September 10.

Sports Minister Thakur had earlier criticized Hockey India’s decision to withdraw from the Games without asking the ministry. The CGF official also said that talks are going on between the CGF and the IOA regarding the Queen’s Baton Relay. The baton will be held in India from January 12 to 15 next year.
