Ever since the announcement of Virat Kohli leaving the T20 captaincy, there is a lot of debate about who will be the next captain of Team India. Rohit Sharma’s name is leading the list, while some cricket pundits are in favor of handing over the T20 captaincy to KL Rahul. After seeing the brilliant captaincy of Rishabh Pant in IPL 2021, his name is also being discussed himself and it is believed that he can be given the responsibility of vice-captain. Meanwhile, former South African fast bowler Dale Steyn has named the next captain of Team India after Virat Kohli.
According to Steyn, Rohit Sharma should be given the captaincy of Team India after Kohli. Talking to ‘Sports Tak’, he said, ‘He has a lot of names to choose the captain. I think the best thing that is happening for the Indian team at the moment is the arrival of young players like Mohammad Siraj and Rishabh Pant. These young players are consistently showing strong games at the international level. So if you give the captaincy to Rohit, who has been with him for some time and has won the IPL trophy many times. So it will be a great call as he knows how to groom young players.
Steyn further said, ‘You look at the IPL, how many players are there. You have Suryakumar, who I think can play this role in the times to come. You have Rishabh Pant, who looks very good. How many players are there, Iyer and Rohit are also there. All of them can shoulder this responsibility, but you have to delegate that responsibility to any one and allow them to run the team. He had given captaincy to a player for a long time and he has done his job well.
