New Zealand have included all-rounder Daryl Mitchell in the squad for the two-match Test series against India. Mitchell has been named in the squad in place of Devon Conway, who was ruled out of the tour due to injury. Conway was injured in the semi-final of the T20 World Cup against England, due to which he has been left out of the team. Daryl Mitchell played an unbeaten innings of 72 runs in the semi-finals to give New Zealand a ticket to the final.
However, for the T20 series, the Kiwis have decided not to include any player in place of Devon Conway. A series of three T20 and two Test matches is to be played between India and New Zealand from November 17, just after the T20 World Cup. The first match of the Test series is to be played in Kanpur from November 25, while the second Test match will be played in Mumbai from December 3. Daryl Mitchell made his Test debut in the year 2019 and he has played five matches for the Kiwi team so far. Mitchell was part of the team in the Test series played on England soil before the World Test Championship final and the team registered a historic victory.
Daryl Mitchell has so far scored 197 runs in 6 matches in the T20 World Cup being played on the soil of UAE and Oman. His strike rate has also been 140.71. In the semi-final against England, he scored 72 runs in just 47 balls to take New Zealand to the final for the first time. Conway, however, had a stellar performance against India and made a significant contribution with the bat in the WTC final as well.
