New Delhi. Sunrisers Hyderabad opener David Warner, one of the top batsmen of IPL, did not play against Rajasthan Royals despite being fit. Warner has also been the captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad. Hyderabad has also become the IPL champion in 2016 under the captaincy of Warner. However, in IPL 2021, Warner’s bat remained silent, due to which he was first stripped of the captaincy and now also out of the team. Warner has scored 5449 runs in this league in 150 matches at an average of 42. But in the 14th season of IPL, this batsman has scored 195 runs in eight matches at a strike rate of just 107.
Sunrisers Hyderabad head coach Trevor Bayliss said the in-form David Warner was dropped to give youngsters a chance in their IPL match against Rajasthan Royals. Sunrisers are already out of the race for the playoffs. Sunrisers beat Royals by seven wickets in which opener Jason Roy and captain Kane Williamson scored half-centuries. “We couldn’t make it to the next round, so we decided to give opportunities to the youngsters so that they can get experience,” Bayliss said in a post-match press conference.
He said, “There are many young players in the team who did not go to the playing field who need to be given a chance. This trend will continue in the next matches as well. Warner watched the match at the hotel and encouraged the team. We are all together.” Asked whether Warner’s days with Sunrisers were over, Bayliss said, “Nothing has been talked about. Warner has given a lot to the team for so many years and everyone respects him. I am sure he will score more runs in IPL.
Mega auction is to be held before IPL 2022. That is, the players will be auctioned afresh. Although all teams will be able to retain 4 players. But a condition has been laid for this. Among the players to be retained, it is necessary to have three domestic and one foreign or two domestic and two foreign players. Apart from this, two new teams are also going to be added to the IPL next year. In such a situation, Warner can be seen playing for a new team.
