New Delhi. Young South African batsman Dewald Brevis was bought by Mumbai Indians for Rs 3 crore in the IPL 2022 mega auction. Brevis, popularly known as ‘Baby AB’, had a strong performance in the Under-19 World Cup just before the IPL. He was the top scorer of the tournament. However, IPL 2022 was a mixed one for him. Playing for Mumbai Indians, Brevis scored a total of 161 runs at an average of 23. But, his strike rate remained above 142. Brevis hit a total of 14 sixes in the 15th season of the league. Some of them were more than 100 meters long. However, he could not score a single half-century in this season of IPL.
The 15th season of IPL was not good for Mumbai Indians and the team did not reach the playoffs. Five-time champion Mumbai had finished last in this season. Despite this, Brevis
Speaking about his first IPL experience, he heaped praise on the captain Rohit Sharma. He told how despite poor performance, Rohit stands by the players and encourages them. Brevis said that having a captain like Rohit automatically takes the pressure off the players.

In his statement posted on the Twitter page of Mumbai Indians, Brevis said, “I think it is a player’s dream to play under his captaincy. He really supports you and he doesn’t put any pressure on you. He wants you to go on the field and enjoy the game to the fullest.”
‘We played more unitedly to come back’
The young South African batsman further told how Mumbai Indians made a comeback in the second half of IPL 2022 after a poor start and how important was the role of captain Rohit Sharma in it. Brevis said, “It was very difficult for us. We just tried to stay positive. We did everything that was necessary to get the victory. We practiced a lot. But, the results did not come in favor. The first 8 matches were difficult for us. But, in the last 6 matches, we played more unitedly and we won some matches.
