India wicket-keeper batsman Dinesh Karthik believes that the concept of split captaincy will not work in India and a captain can work well in all formats. He said that it was the right decision of the selection committee to give the responsibility of captaincy in all formats to Rohit Sharma. Rohit Sharma will debut as Test captain when India play the first Test against Sri Lanka at the IS Bindra PCA Stadium from Friday.
Dinesh Karthik in ICC review show said, “India needs a captain to like cricket. It is very easy to deal with one captain for all three formats. I remember MS Dhoni saying split captaincy India I haven’t seen that in our time, so we wouldn’t know, but at the moment when I see it, I think he (Rohit) is the man. Every time he touched something; He turned gold. Whatever series he has been a part of, he has absolutely won.”
Karthik is impressed with the way Rohit Sharma used India’s bowlers and the way the team performed well. “He has shown a lot of strategy in the matches he has played. Rotated the bowlers really well, gave confidence to the batsmen and when they won a series, gave chances to the young players. Sometimes that Playing on the ground where he has never batted. So it can be said that he is doing a lot of things right.
Venkatesh Iyer, Deepak Hooda, Ravi Bishnoi, Avesh Khan and Harshal Patel have made their debuts for India under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma and all have done well. Karthik said, “The good thing is that under his captaincy 2-3 players have made their debuts and everyone has done well. It doesn’t always happen. It’s great to see this happen. He understands failures very well.” So it’s great that he is taking the team forward.”
