Discus thrower Kamalpreet Kaur banned for 3 years, titles won after March will be invalid

New Delhi. India’s discus thrower female athlete Kamalpreet Kaur has been banned for 3 years due to doping. The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) associated with the international body World Athletics has announced that this decision has been taken due to the use of a banned substance. AIU has tweeted in this regard that the results of any competition they have participated in after March 7, 2022 will not be considered valid. The ban against Kamalpreet Kaur will be deemed to have started from March 29, 2022. Kamalpreet finished sixth in the Tokyo Olympics.

Earlier, top Indian discus thrower Kamalpreet Kaur was provisionally suspended by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) after she tested positive for a banned steroid. Now Kamalpreet has been found guilty of doping, after which she has been banned for 3 years.

Kamalpreet finished sixth in Tokyo Olympics
The ‘Athletics Integrity Unit’ is an independent body set up by World Athletics. He had issued a notice to this 26-year-old Punjab player asking her to present her case. National record holder Kamalpreet had finished sixth in the Tokyo Olympics. Kamalpreet Kaur had set a national record by throwing discus 66.59 meters in Patiala last year. Earlier in the year 2018, his personal best was 61.04 metres.

Won Gold in Indian Grand Prix Meet
Kamalpreet, who stood first with a national record in Patiala, had qualified for the Tokyo Olympics. He threw the discus 64.00 meters in the qualifying round in Tokyo. In the final, she finished sixth with 63.70 metres. In March this year, Kaur won the gold medal at the Indian Grand Prix meet in Thiruvananthapuram by throwing a discus of 61.39 metres.
