New Delhi. National Anti Doping Agency ie NADA keeps on taking dope test of players from time to time. In 2019, BCCI also came under NADA. If we look at the figures of the last 2 years i.e. 2021 and 2022, a total of 5962 athletes were dope tested. There were only 114 cricketers in it. It is around 2 percent. On the other hand, athletics players are at the forefront in this matter. Dope test of its 1717 players was taken. Rohit Sharma, the captain of the Indian cricket team, appeared in the dope test maximum 6 times. At the same time, many veterans including Virat Kohli were not tested even once.
The Indian Express has given information about the dope test conducted by NADA in 2021 and 2022 on the basis of information gathered under RTI. According to the report, Indian cricketers are far behind other countries in the matter of dope test. According to the report of the World Doping Agency i.e. WADA, apart from the tournament, UK agency took 96 tests of 96 cricketers in 2021 and Australia took 69 tests. WADA has also raised questions on NADA regarding this.
Pant and Suryakumar also got tested
According to the report, Rohit Sharma appeared in the dope test in Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Chennai and UAE during the last 2 years. Apart from this, 7 players including Rishabh Pant, Suryakumar Yadav and Cheteshwar Pujara were tested only once. Whereas NADA BCCI could not take a single test of 12 out of 25 players who got the contract. This includes star cricketers like Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, fast bowler Mohammad Shami, Mohammad Siraj, Umesh Yadav, Shardul Thakur and Arshdeep Singh.
Wada has raised questions on NADA regarding low testing and said that the Indian agency is not working properly to catch the players involved in dope. In the past, many Indian athletes failed in the dope test. Even after this, star cricketers were not asked to give dope test. It is known that right now Team India is on a tour of West Indies.
