Kangaroo batsmen stunned by Broad-Stokes bowling in Birmingham
Early successes for England
Birmingham: England fast bowler Stuart Broad dismissed the world’s number one Test batsman Marnus Labuschagne on the very first ball as England kept Australia at 78 for three at lunch on the second day of the first Ashes Test. Taking full advantage of the favorable bowling conditions, the hosts achieved three successes in the morning session. Australia’s team is still 315 runs behind England, who declared the first innings by scoring 393 runs for eight wickets.
At lunch, opener Usman Khawaja was batting on 40 while world number three batsman Travis Head was playing on eight runs. Australia started the day with 14 runs without losing a wicket. Opener David Warner (09) played the ball outside the off side of Broad in the seventh over of the day’s innings. On the next ball, Labushen (00) handed over the catch to wicketkeeper Johnny Bairstow.

Khawaja and world number two Test batsman Steve Smith (16) kept the hosts’ bowlers bereft of success for more than an hour. Stokes, however, gave Australia a third blow by lbw Smith on the last ball of his second over. Smith took DRS but the decision went in favor of the hosts and he had to return to the pavilion.
