Punjab Kings’ trouble increased before IPL 2023
2 players injured, how will PBKS sail through?
New Delhi. Even before the start of IPL 2023, the problems of Punjab Kings are increasing. After the team’s wicket-keeper batsman Johnny Bairstow was ruled out of the IPL due to injury, another news has come to increase the team’s troubles. Now Liam Livingstone’s injury has raised the concern of the team. He will not be able to play in the first match of Punjab Kings in IPL 2023. The England and Wales Cricket Board has not given fitness clearance to Livingstone after recovering from a knee injury. That is, he will not be able to play the first match.
Punjab Kings will play their first match in IPL 2023 against Kolkata Knight Riders on 1st April. According to the report of ESPNcricinfo, Livingstone has come to India. But, will not be available for selection in the first match of Punjab Kings. Liam Livingstone suffered a knee injury on his Test debut against Pakistan in December last year. Since then he is not in action.
A source associated with IPL told PTI, “Livingstone will not be able to play at least 1 match. Because ECB will get a scan done to check his fitness. He will be available from the second match.” The second match of Punjab Kings will be from Rajasthan Royals on 5th April.
Livingstone and Bairstow are very important players of Punjab Kings. If one wreaks havoc in the top order, then one can play the role of a match finisher. When the bat of both of them speaks, then any bowler proves to be a dwarf in front of them. Last season, Bairstow scored 253 runs in 11 matches with the help of 2 half-centuries. His strike rate was 145.
Liam Livingstone was bought by the Punjab Kings in the IPL 2022 mega auction for Rs 11.5 crore. He had scored 437 runs in 14 matches last season. His strike rate is 167. Last season, Livingstone hit 40 sixes and 38 fours.
