New Delhi. The 48th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 was played between Sharjah (PBKS) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). In this match, Punjab Kings captain KL Rahul’s furious form came to the fore when he was seen arguing with on-field umpire Anantha Padmanabhan over a DRS call. On Sunday, captain KL Rahul appeared very angry after the third umpire turned down a review against Royal Challengers Bangalore opener Devdutt Padikkal.
The incident happened during the eighth over of RCB’s innings, when Devdutt Padikkal tried to reverse sweep a googly from leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi, but failed to connect. The ball went under the glove of the wicketkeeper without any difficulty behind Rahul’s wicket. While Rahul and Bishnoi started celebrating this wicket, umpire Padmanabhan refused to dismiss Padikkal. Went for the DRS, but the TV umpire was not convinced by the ultra-edge, which showed a slight spike when the ball rolled under Padikkal’s glove.
Ultimately, the Royal Challengers Bangalore batsman was declared not out, while the players of Punjab were not at all happy with this decision. Frustrated Rahul went closer to the on-field umpire for an argument, but to no avail as the final decision was made by the third umpire.

Meanwhile, this incident also created a ruckus on social media. The people of the cricket fraternity were also confused whether it got out or not. Former New Zealand all-rounder Scott Styris wrote on Twitter, “Sack the third umpire immediately. what a joke!”
Earlier, RCB won the toss and elected to bat against Punjab Kings in Sharjah. Bangalore scored 164 runs in the allotted 20 overs for the loss of 7 wickets. After this the Punjab team could score only 158 runs losing 6 wickets. RCB beat Punjab Kings by 6 runs. Bangalore now has 16 points and has also secured a place in the playoffs. Bangalore became the third team of the season to qualify for the playoffs. Before that, 3-time champions Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals team have made it to the playoffs with 18-18 points.
