Football Match-Fixing: CBI investigation accelerates, information related to club sought from Football Federation

New Delhi. The CBI has started a preliminary inquiry into alleged match-fixing in football matches in the country. Officials gave this information on Monday. He told that during the investigation that started about 15 days ago, the CBI has sought and collected documents of several Indian football clubs from the Delhi-based All India Football Federation. He further said that the role of an alleged ‘match fixer’ based in Singapore in rigging the results of the matches has also come to the fore under the purview of the investigation.

Officials declined to provide any information about the suspects named in the preliminary investigation and details of the charges, fearing it could hinder the investigation. The investigation into match-fixing is currently in its initial stage. He said that the agency has received some documents, while some others are still awaited. He said that the agency has also sought cooperation from several Indian football clubs to join the probe. Citing the law, officials said that the CBI cannot inquire through search, arrest or summons as part of the preliminary investigation.

Officials involved in the investigation said that the central probe agency depends on the cooperation of the stakeholders during the preliminary investigation and registers the FIR when it has material prima facie indicating offence. Let us tell you that after the serious allegation of fixing the football match, there was a stir everywhere. The investigation of the case was handed over to the CBI.
