New Delhi. MSK Prasad, the former chief selector of Team India, believes that leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal should have got a chance in the Indian team selected for the T20 World Cup 2021. Because he is the highest wicket-taker for India in T20. Chahal’s form was messed up in recent times. Still, Prasad is confident that if he had been selected for the World Cup, he could have been of use to the team.
The former chief selector said on Sports Tak that I think he (Chahal) is our best T20 bowler in terms of wickets. He has done brilliantly in the last 4-5 years. On flat wickets like in Bangalore, he (Chahal) never let down his captain Virat Kohli and always took wickets. Whether we call it good luck or bad luck, the selectors must have looked at the performance of both of them on their recent form.
Prasad further said that Chahal’s performance in the last 18 months has not been that good. At the same time, Rahul Chahar has played a big role in helping Mumbai Indians win consecutive IPL titles. Maybe the same thing has gone in favor of Chahar.
Chahal’s performance has declined in the last few years, while Rahul Chahar has rapidly caught everyone’s attention. He has taken 13, 15 and 13 wickets in the last three IPL seasons.
Chahal took 7 wickets in the second half of IPL
Chahar also bowled well in the first half of IPL 2021. But in the second, this leg spinner looks faded. He has been able to take only 2 wickets in 4 matches so far. In the last match against Delhi Capitals, Chahar was not included in the playing-11 by captain Rohit Sharma. Chahal, on the other hand, has bowled well in the UAE leg of the IPL. He has taken 7 wickets in 4 matches.
Chahal still has a chance to get a place in the team
In the 15-man squad that India has selected for the T20 World Cup, Axar Patel, Varun Chakraborty, R Ashwin and Rahul Chahar have been given a chance as spinners. At the same time, Ravindra Jadeja is also included as an all-rounder. Who bowls spin. All the teams have a chance to change their squad till October 10. In such a situation, there is still a possibility that India may include Chahal in the World Cup squad considering his impressive performance in the UAE leg.
