Former Indian captain Dilip Vengsarkar feels Umran Malik deserves to play for India


Umran Malik has been included in the Indian cricket team for the first time after his impressive performance in IPL 2022. He is part of India’s 18-man squad for the ongoing five-match T20I series against South Africa. However, he hasn’t got a chance to make his debut yet. Team India has to play its second T20 match against South Africa today i.e. on Sunday in Cuttack. In this match, Umran can get a chance to debut in international cricket. Meanwhile, former Indian selectors chief Dilip Vengsarkar believes that Umran is all set to play international cricket.

Khaleej Times quoted Vengsarkar as saying, ‘Everyone has a different perspective towards the game. But I think the way he has shown his speed and accuracy in the IPL, he deserves to play. Also, when you are playing international cricket at home, this is the right time to try someone like him.

Umran took 22 wickets in 14 matches for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2022 at an average of 20.18 and an economy rate of 9.03. This fast bowler from Jammu and Kashmir consistently bowled at a speed of 150 kmph in IPL 2022. He was adjudged the Emerging Player of the tournament. He consistently impressed everyone with his speed throughout the tournament.
