In IPL 2021, Kolkata Knight Riders’ rising batsman Venkatesh Iyer has created a ruckus on UAE soil. Thanks to Venkatesh, KKR’s team has been able to beat teams like Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore in the second leg of the 14th season of the Indian Premier League. The young batsman has so far scored 193 runs in 5 matches and has a strike rate of 14.191 during this period. In bowling too, Venkatesh has taken three wickets along with being economical. Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar believes that this KKR player can become the all-rounder of Team India in future, which the Indian team has been looking for for a long time.
In a column for the Times of India, Gavaskar praised Venkatesh fiercely. He said, ‘KKR have found a player in Venkatesh Iyer who can become the all-rounder for Team India, which the team was looking for. He doesn’t have a lot of pace in his bowling, but he throws yorkers well and doesn’t allow the batsmen to slog against him. As a batsman, he plays straight, due to which he is in a very good position to play the shot ball and like every left-handed batsman, he makes an amazing drive in the off-side.
Venkatesh also performed brilliantly in the match played against Punjab Kings and played a stormy innings of 67 runs. Not only this, he also took the big wicket of KL Rahul in his bowling. Venkatesh had almost brought Kolkata closer to victory by getting the wicket of Shahrukh Khan, but Rahul Tripathi, standing on the boundary line, dropped Shahrukh’s catch. Due to which Kolkata had to face defeat by 5 wickets. KKR are yet to play two more matches in IPL 2021 and the team will have to win both the matches to keep the playoff hopes alive.
