Former Indian coach Ravi Shastri says Team India should avoid playing Hardik Pandya in ODIs until the T20 World Cup

Hardik Pandya has returned to the Indian team for the T20 series against South Africa. Hardik has not been able to play many matches at the international level since his back surgery. But Hardik has always been a part of India’s plans and as a result, he has once again got a chance in the Indian team. Hardik Pandya played his last T20 match against Nimibia in the World Cup itself on 8 November. However, former India coach Ravi Shastri has said that Hardik should play only T20 cricket for the next few months before the upcoming T20 World Cup. In the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, Gujarat Titans (GT) has been given the title by Hardik in the debut season as captain.

Hardik Pandya performed brilliantly in the 15th season of IPL, scoring 487 runs in 15 matches at an average of 44.27, which included four half-centuries to his name. Shastri believes that Hardik should get enough time to rest before the T20 event in Australia and his fitness also needs to be taken care of. He said that Hardin is fit enough to bowl a few overs.

Shastri said, “He will come back for me as a batsman or as an all-rounder. I don’t think he is injured so badly where he can’t bowl you two overs. He has got enough rest and That will give him enough rest. Because that’s the only format he should play till he reaches the World Cup. He shouldn’t take the risk of him playing one-day cricket.

He said, “By large, he does the work of two players. Hardik Pandya playing as a batsman would mean he has to bat in the top four or five but Hardik Pandya playing as an all-rounder he can bat at five, six or four and still he can bat in the top four or five. Throw three overs for you.”
