Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar believes that India needs a wicket-taking spinner in the T20 World Cup. India did not get a single wicket in the match played against Pakistan. In this match, the pair of Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan shared an unbeaten 152-run partnership. India had included Ravindra Jadeja and Varun Chakraborty as spinners against Pakistan. Both of them spent 61 runs in 8 overs.
Manjrekar told news agency ANI, ‘India needs such spinners who get them wickets instead of stopping the batsmen. India needs wicket-taking spinners. Any spinner who bowls to take wickets and doesn’t care about the economy is right for me. In a way, Sanjay Manjrekar was referring to Yuzvendra Chahal as he looks to take wickets. But Chahal has not been included in the T20 World Cup squad.
Kohli had said about Ashwin that he has bowled tough overs in the last few IPL tournaments. He bowled in front of the top players in the IPL. He did not shy away from who is in front of him, he believed in bowling in a good position. At present, Ashwin is such a bowler in the team, who has variations and he also has a lot of experience in international cricket. He can change the game with his spell. India has an important match against New Zealand on 31 October. It will be interesting to see whether Ashwin gets a chance in this match.
